Conference, Topic: Occupational Health and Safety

Under the frame of 6331 numbered Occupational Health and Safety, at Meram Faculty of Medicine Morfology Building there was a “Occupational Health and Safety Concept, Employer’s Responsibilities, Occupational Health and Safety” themed meeting.
Our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın, our Faculty Deans, Secretaries, Heads of Offices and Academicians attended the conference.
At the opening speech our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın talked about the importance of Occupational Health and Safety nowadays and the requirement of a lot more implementation of these in our university. He extended his thanks to Occupational Safety Specialist Dr. Yaşar Ali Sulak for information he would share and for his attendance.
Job Safety Specialist Dr. Yaşar Ali Sulak said followings: “Nowadays there should be job security assurance at vocational education. In this frame, all employees have to take the Occupational Health and Safety education. Occupational Health and Safety aims the protection of employees. There is a service put forward where the work done by a person. There is economic revenue.  Anything at workplace may harm the health of employee. There should be precautions against them. All accidents taking place at workplace regarded as job accident. One of the health problems is illness derived vocation performed. Job accident and vocational illness affects employee and his/her family. Principally the employee gets damage, as stated in proverb, fire burns where it falls. Occupational Health and Safety is basically a matter of culture. 88 percent of the job accidents occur due to risky attitudes, 10 percent due to risky circumstances, 2 percent due to unavoidable and unresolved conditions. The causes of vocational illness are known and illnesses 100 percent may be prevented. Employers make take every measure to protect health and safety of employee. According to statistics of ILO(International Labor Organization) everyday 1 million job accidents occur, 5534 employees lose their lives due to vocational illnesses, 879 employees lose their lives due to job accidents. In Turkey, according to the records of Social Security Institution, in 2012 237 job accidents took place and 2 employees lose their lives and 6 employees become incapacitated in working. Therefore, we have to be acquainted with the Occupational Health and Safety issues and take all necessary measures at our workplaces.”
After the speeches our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emin Aydın presented a plate ornamented with encaustic tile to Occupational Safety Specialist Dr. Yaşar Ali Sulak.
