About Program
The Primary School Teacher Education Undergraduate Program was founded in 1990 within the Faculty of Education of Selçuk University in order to train primary school teachers for the Ministry of National Education and started to accept students since the 1990/1991 academic year. With the restructuring of the Education Faculties, it became a distinct program of the Primary Education Department in the 1998/1999 academic year. After Ahmet Keleşoğlu Faculty of Education became a part of Necmettin Erbakan University in the 2011/2012 academic year, it was incorporated into this university. With the changes made in 2016 for the purpose of structuring Higher Education Institutions, it was named as Primary School Teacher Education Department under the Department of Primary Education.
The Primary School Teacher Education Program lasts eight semesters and four academic years. Students enrolled in the program take compulsory and optional vocational knowledge, general culture and field knowledge courses. The program consists of core courses encompassing the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to be a teacher for grades 1 through 4 of primary school. As of the fall semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, the program holds 14 lecturers, including five professors, three associate professors, four assistant professors, a research assistant doctor and a research assistant.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of the Primary School Teacher Education Program may work as teachers with the title of primary school teacher in public and private schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. In addition, there are also graduate and postgraduate programs of the primary school teacher education program (master with and without thesis and doctorate programs). Graduates can also pursue an academic career through their education in these programs.
