The Department of Economics was established within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2010, after which it left this faculty in 2017 and was included in the Faculty of Political Sciences.
The Department consists of four main disciplines: Economic Development and International Economics, Economic Policy, Economic History and Economic Theory.
While the curriculum of the department of economics teaches the basic methods of economics, it also provides the development of the ability to analyze within the framework of different economic approaches by addressing the current developments in the Economy of Turkey and the European Union. Thus, the ground is prepared for the training of candidates who have the necessary knowledge and skills for the administrative positions that our country needs.
The purpose of the Department of Economics; To educate economists with the quality needed by the society and to lead scientific activities that will expand the research horizon of economics in our country. Economics education consists of two basic processes. The first of these is to teach the economic principles and tools to be used in post-university life, and thus to train a qualified workforce, which is required by economic units trying to be successful in the face of rapidly changing global conditions. The second is to develop the ability to think systematically and independently, which can be useful in all areas of human life, and to provide students with a scientific discipline in economic matters. In this context, the content of the economics department includes courses on business, finance and law, as well as economics courses. In this way, graduates are provided with the opportunity to work in a wide range of positions.
In the Department of Economics; not only in the fields of Economic Theory, Economic Policy, Economic History, Economic Development and International Economics, but also studies are carried out in areas such as in Basic Economy, Management, Law, Business Administration, Statistics, Turkey-EU Relations Political Economy, Economic History, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, International Economics, Monetary Policy, Development Economics, Macroeconomic Issues of Developing Countries, Industrial Economics and Applied Econometrics.
